Our Estate was founded more than 500 years ago.
In 1513, Pierre-Etienne Mellot wrote the first page of our family winemaking history.
In 1698, César Mellot was King Louis XIV’s counsellor for his wine selection.
Our Mellot family name thus became a symbol of Sancerre.
Creation of the Auberge Joseph Mellot. Famous guests frequented it: Claude Monet, Marechal Juin...
It was the first restaurant to open in Sancerre and the beginning of what will be called ‘wine tourism’.
Alphonse Mellot is the first Sancerre winemaker to exhibit his wines at the Foire de Paris, where he wins numerous medals.
He later opened a warehouse in the Bercy wine market to develop sales in the capital. His two sons, Joseph and Edmond, took over the estate in 1946.
Joseph Mellot develops export sales to Denmark, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
1960 also sees the creation of the “La Vigne et le Vin” boutique by Madame Josette Mellot.
Edmond and Joseph separate. The vineyard is divided and the 2 MELLOT branches are born. Joseph MELLOT takes over the winery and gives it his own name.
His son Alexandre succeeds him and develops Domaine Joseph MELLOT with commitment. He was one of the first to believe in the strong potential of Sancerre and Centre-Loire wines.
He extended the vineyard, modernized the production facilities and gave new impetus to exports. He was joined in 1987 by his wife, Catherine CORBEAU-MELLOT, who took charge of sales and communications.
Catherine Corbeau-Mellot, his wife, joins him in management and communications.
Alexandre Mellot died aged just 44. His wife Catherine naturally takes over.
Catherine is named “Chevalier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole” by the French Ministry of Agriculture.
The estate also obtains BRC certification, a British standard that evaluates the conformity of companies in the food sector.
Joseph Mellot is the first winery in the region to receive ISO 14001 certification, a standard based on the principle of continuous improvement of environmental performance.
Joseph Mellot obtains the “Agriculture Raisonnée” qualification.
Catherine Corbeau-Mellot has been named Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite by the French Ministry of Foreign Trade. The award was presented to her on January 12, 2013 by Philippe FAURE BRAC, World's Best Sommelier (1992).
Celebration of the estate's 500th anniversary.
Domaine des Emois is certified “Agriculture Biologique”.
Catherine Corbeau-Mellot is appointed Officier de l'Ordre du Mérite Agricole.
The entire estate has been managed using integrated viticulture since 2010, and will receive High Environmental Value (HVE) certification in 2019.
A rewarding certification, but above all a tool for measuring practices, enabling us to assess the agro-ecological performance of the estate as a whole.
Catherine Corbeau-Mellot is appointed Commandeur in the Ordre du Mérite Agricole.
The story continues with Adrien Mellot joining the estate.
